
Sullivan and wright win big during first week of the lamplight spring spectacular
Top hunter, jumper, and equitation riders returned to the Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne, Illinois on June 4, 2025, for the kickoff of the three-week Lamplight Spring Spectacular series. As part of a summer-long circuit taking place at the iconic HITS venue, the week saw a phenomenal return of elite sport with event highlights including the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby where Melanie Wright reigned supreme, as well as the $35,000 John Deere Grand Prix dominated by Shannon Sullivan.

Wilmington, OHIO – A winter storm blew into much of Ohio, but Wilmington’s Winter Classic 8 continued with fierce entries taking on Thursday’s $10,000 Welcome Stake 1.35m.. The course was intricately designed by Lexington’s own Bobby Murphy. Just six entries jumped clear, and four managed double clear rounds, with Shannon Sullivan and her own Downtown’s Main Event (Love Sopreme) taking home the big win.

$7,500 Futures Prix 1.40m saw a field of 46 entries vying for the win over a similar course to that of the Grand Prix. The track for the Futures Prix featured two double combinations and a triple combination. Ten entries found clear first rounds, but just five managed to jump double clear, with Shannon Sullivan and her own Downtown’s Main Event topping the class by two seconds in the jump-off.

Shannon Sullivan began her equestrian career in the backyard of her childhood home in Orland Park, Illinois. From a young age, Shannon knew that horses would always be a part of her life. At the age of 19, Shannon moved to Frankfort, Illinois to start her own business, Downtown Equestrian Center.

Wayne, Illinois, USA – August 13, 2023 – The Lamplight Equifest Series came to a close on Sunday at HITS Chicago, but riders were aiming for the top of the podium as the summer season winds down. Speedy efforts were made in the Douglas Elliman Grand Prix Stadium for the victory in Sunday’s $50,000 SummitMax Grand Prix. Shannon Sullivan (USA) and Downtown’s Main Event were too fast to be caught during the jump-off, crossing the timers with all the rails intact and clocking in at an impressive 34.57 seconds.

Frankfort woman grows horse business despite tough economy
Shannon Sullivan knew from childhood that she wanted to compete in equestrian show jumping, operate a commercial stable, and professionally train horses and riders. At 19 and forgoing college to the dismay of her parents, she set out to do just that. Now, ten years later, Sullivan, 29, operates a thriving business with a bright future, despite a crippling recession that drove other operators to the brink or worse.
